Irish castles make for some of the most picturesque images in all of Europe



In a land of green hills and valley’s, fairies and leprechauns the multitude of Irish castles scattered throughout the countryside make for some of the most picturesque images in Europe. The Emerald Isle's impressive strongholds are steeped in history with some ruins dating back to the 12th century, built during the time of the Anglo-Norman invasion.

Our journeys will take us to the ruins of Blarney Castle, the home of the blarney stone and to the spectacular Lismore Castle, Co.Waterford started in 1185 by Prince John.

Lismore Castle is perhaps the most spectacular castle in Ireland and has been the Irish home of the Duke of Devonshire since 1753.

Ross Castle standing on the shores of Killarney’s Lower Lake may be considered a fine example of an Irish Chieftain’s stronghold built during the middle Ages.

Trim Castle the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland is situated on the banks of the Boyne River was erected by Hugh de Lacy in 1172 and destroyed by Roderick of Connaught in 1174.
