A voyage of discovery Visiting some of Europe's most picturesque castles
Guide to Castles of Europe was born from a childhood fascination of King Arthur and the knights of Camelot and from boyhood dreams of being the knight in shining armour.
In reality, this period in time was in stark contrast to that portrayed in films and on TV. These times were brutal. People went to war for the sake of greed or religious persecution. Men invaded nations to increase their wealth or fought over the love of a woman. Murder and deception took place within stone walls. Torture was committed for pleasure.
These magnificent stone fortresses were built to help protect from invasion and to guard newly acquired wealth.
For some they became a place of torture, seats of power or places from which to strike fear into their subjects.
Centuries have passed and their legacy lives on. Many have become entrenched into our every day life (Count Dracula), whilst others are not so well known. The builders of these bastions have been resigned to the history books.
Their achievements, some in ruins , others restored to their former glory, live on to provide a silent testament to a time long gone.

Absolutely excellent site you have! I like very much of those castles and one idea has been to go and tour Europe and photograph different castles.
Great site!

We will travel to England and the British Isles; hop across the sea to Ireland and wander the great vastness that is Europe.
We will visit some of Europe’s most picturesque, mysterious and notorious castles unravelling their history, legends and myths in a Voyage of Discovery and Adventure....
Our epic journey will take us to the legendary home of Vlad Tepes (Castle Dracula), made famous by Bram Stoker. We will travel to the Emerald Isle, home of the fairies and leprechauns and journey across the water to visit The Tower of London.
This guide is no way complete as Europe is so vast and diverse, but is a selection of my favourite places. It is like a growing infant enriching our daily lives, and with your help.... we will watch it blossom into a fine adult.
A Guide to Castles of Europe was born from childhood dreams and aspirations. It is my hope to educate and stimulate you into exploring these places of beauty for yourselves.
